How to use Illustrator Turntable to generate multiple views of your artwork

Sometimes a flat design doesn’t fully communicate your idea — especially when you’re designing packaging, stickers, icons, or products. That’s where Turntable, powered by Adobe Firefly, can help.

Turntable generates multiple rotated views of your artwork so you can quickly explore how a design looks from different angles — without rebuilding it manually.

Let’s walk through how it works.

Step 1: Select your artwork

Use the Selection Tool to select the object you want to rotate.

Turntable works best when:

  • The object has no background
  • The artwork represents something recognizable in the real world
  • The object is vector or raster artwork

Step 2: Generate rotated views

Go to:

Object > Generative > Turntable

Illustrator will automatically:

  • Create multiple rotated views
  • Generate a Generative Object
  • Add controls for rotating and tilting the artwork
  • Save a copy of your original object in the Layers panel

You can also access Turntable from:

  • Properties panel
  • Transform panel
  • Contextual Task Bar

Step 3: Rotate and tilt the object

Use the slider in the Turntable control bar to rotate the object up to 180° in either direction.

You can also:

  • Tilt the object up for a top-down view
  • Tilt the object down for a bottom-up view
  • Reset the object to the original view at any time

This makes it easy to explore your design from multiple perspectives.

Step 4: Place individual views on the canvas

Want to use specific angles in your layout or presentation?

You can:

  • Add the next rotated view to the left or right
  • Choose Place all views on canvas to generate every angle as separate objects

This is great for:

  • Portfolio presentations
  • Product mockups
  • Branding explorations
  • Social media graphics

Step 5: Export as a GIF

Turntable can also create a rotating animation.

Select Export as GIF from the Turntable controls and choose:

  • Which views to include
  • Frame rate
  • Rotation direction
  • Background color
  • Playback style

This is perfect for showing design work on social media or in a portfolio.

Step 6: Editing a view permanently

Because Turntable creates linked generative views, edits made directly to a view may disappear when you rotate again.

To permanently edit a version:

  1. Duplicate the Generative Object
  2. Move the slider to the view you want
  3. Choose Object > Ungroup or Object > Expand
  4. Edit the object normally

Once expanded, it becomes a standard Illustrator object.

Why designers should try Turntable

Turntable is a fast way to:

  • Visualize designs in 3D-like space
  • Create portfolio-ready visuals
  • Explore product ideas
  • Generate motion graphics assets

Instead of rebuilding artwork repeatedly, you can explore angles instantly.
