Using text-based editing to trim a long interview

Image of laptop on table in large room with Premiere text based editing on the screen.

Using text-based editing speeds up the editing process and gives you a new way to get the best clips. No need to be intimidated by long interviews.

To begin, drop the entire clip in a sequence. (Even easier right click on a clip and create a “New Sequence From Clip” from the pop up menu).

Filter and delete any unwanted filler words and pauses. When you edit from the text – the sequence updates.

Next, select portions of the clip you want to use. You can either lift this content out or use markers to mark what you want (and eliminate the rest).
